About Us

In September 1965, Mary Ann and Richard Hubschman established the “Humpty Dumpty Nursery School” in Fort Lee, New Jersey. It was the only local school specifically designed for young children, with an educational philosophy emphasizing both intellectual and social growth. Palisades has been dedicated to fostering the whole child, ensuring each one experiences the joy of discovery as they transition from home to school.

After two successful years, the school was renamed “Palisades Pre-School & Kindergarten” to better reflect Mary Ann’s vision. Today, over 55 years later, Palisades Pre-School & Kindergarten is renowned for its excellence in early childhood education. Alumni frequently return with their own children, sharing fond memories of their first school experience.

As many parents moved to communities north of Fort Lee, there was a growing demand for a new school closer to their homes. In response, Palisades Country Day School was opened in Closter, New Jersey, in September 1994, followed by a third school shortly thereafter. Mary Ann Hubschman remained the director of all three schools for 58 years, steadfastly adhering to her original plan of creating a quality preschool that values nurturing and learning together.

Mary Ann and Richard’s legacy continues with their grandchildren. The Fort Lee location is now owned and operated by their grandchildren, Richard and Tiffany Hubschman III, while Laura Hubschman-Scuderi, continues to oversee the Closter location. Together with an incredible team of teachers and support staff, we continue to provide a “Good Beginning that Never Ends” for all our students.

Our mission is to create a nurturing and family-oriented environment where every child is encouraged to develop and grow at their own pace. Through personalized care and engaging experiences, we inspire lifelong learning and cultivate a sense of belonging, empowering children to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
